The Critical Care Medicine Department at Holy Family Hospital provides round-the-clock, specialized care for patients with life-threatening conditions and complex medical or surgical needs. Our department is equipped with state of art technology and a highly experienced team of healthcare professionals dedicated to offering continuous monitoring and treatment in a safe, compassionate environment. With 52 intensive care beds and 17 semi-ICU beds, we are capable of managing a wide range of medical emergencies, including respiratory failure, sepsis, multi-organ dysfunction, treatment of Neuro critical care etc. and post-surgical recovery.

Our focus is to deliver individualized care with the utmost respect for patient dignity, privacy, and comfort, ensuring that both patients and their families feel fully supported throughout their journey.

  • Dialysis Services: We offer 24-hour bed side dialysis support, including continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), for patients with kidney failure.
  • Specialized Isolation Rooms: Our isolation rooms, with positive and negative pressure systems, provide safe care for patients with infections or weakened immune systems.
  • Advanced Monitoring and Support: All ICU beds are equipped with comprehensive monitoring systems to track vital signs in real time, ensuring prompt response to any changes.
  • Multi-disciplinary Care: We collaborate with specialists from various fields to provide complete and coordinated care, ensuring that every aspect of our patients’ health is covered.
  • Bedside Procedures: Key diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as bronchoscopy, tracheostomy and endoscopy, are done at the bedside, ensuring minimal movement for critically ill patients.
  • Plasma Exchange Therapy: We provide plasma exchange therapy to help treat certain blood disorders and autoimmune diseases.

Procedures Offered

We offer a range of specialized procedures aimed at stabilizing and improving the health of critically ill patients

  • Invasive Procedures under Ultrasound Guidance: We perform procedures such as central line, arterial line insertion, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture and paracentesis under ultrasound guidance for enhanced accuracy and patient safety.
  • Hemodialysis and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT): We offer 24-hour bedside dialysis support, including CRRT, for patients with acute kidney failure, providing continuous dialysis for critical patients in need of prolonged renal support, directly at the bedside for patients with renal failure.
  • Plasma Exchange Therapy: A life-saving procedure provided for patients with blood disorders, allowing the removal of harmful substances from the blood while ensuring effective treatment.
  • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO): For patients with severe heart or lung failure, ECMO provides temporary life support by oxygenating the blood outside the body.
  • Tracheostomy and Percutaneous Procedures: We offer bedside tracheostomies and other percutaneous procedures, ensuring airway management and respiratory support when needed.
  • Bedside Bronchoscopy, Endoscopy, and Colonoscopy: This procedure allows our specialists to visualize the airways and lungs, diagnose and treat conditions affecting the digestive system, ensuring patients receive timely care bedsite, without needing to be moved.
  • Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Analysis: In-house ABG analysis helps in real-time assessment of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and pH levels in the blood for critically ill patients.
  • Percutaneous Tracheastomy:
  • Bedside 2D Echocardiogram (Echo) and Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE): We offer heart imaging services at the bedside, allowing immediate cardiac assessments to monitor heart function and guide treatment without moving the patient.
  • Portable X-ray, ultrasonography: We offer portable imaging services to perform essential X-rays and ultrasound scans at the patient’s bedside, ensuring prompt diagnosis and reducing the need for patient transport.

  • ICU Beds: All ICU beds are equipped with continuous state of art monitoring systems to track vital signs and provide real-time data on heart rate, oxygen levels, and other parameters, ensuring immediate intervention when needed and offering a safe environment for critical care.
  • Advanced monitoring( Invasive & Non-invasive monitoring):
  • Advanced Ventilators: Our ICU is fully equipped with state of the art ventilator, BiPAP, HFNC invasive and non-invasive ventilators to support patients with respiratory failure.
  • Dialysis and CRRT Services: We provide 24/7 dialysis services, including CRRT, for patients with kidney failure. These services are available right at the bedside for patient convenience and safety.
  • Isolation Rooms with Specialized Pressure Systems: Our isolation rooms are designed to control infections, providing protection with both positive and negative pressure systems to create safe zones and prevent cross-contamination for patients with infectious diseases.
  • Strict Infection Control: Our department follows rigorous infection control protocols, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
  • Infusion and DVT Pumps: We use infusion pumps for precise medication delivery and DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) pumps to improve circulation and prevent blood clots in immobilized patients.
  • Ultrasound and 2D Echo Machines: Ultrasound and echocardiography services are readily available at the bedside for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes for critically ill patients.
